Seven and a half months ahead of schedule, Hudong Zhonghua delivered the world's highest-ranking LNG dual-fuel container ship

2026-03-17

On March 17, the world's ***24,000TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel powered container ship "CMA CGM Paris Grand Palais" built by Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group, was named and delivered on Changxing Island in Shanghai seven and a half months ahead of schedule. This is the 20th large container ship built by Hudong Zhonghua for CMA CGM Group, which will be put into operation on the Mediterranean route, injecting new momentum into the smooth flow of global trade and contributing new strength to the sustainable development of shipping.

The "CMA CGM Grand Palais" has a total length of 399 meters, a width of 61.3 meters, a depth of 33.5 meters, a design draft of 14.5 meters, and can load nearly 24,000 standard containers, equivalent to the loading capacity of 480 China-Europe special trains, and the number of stacking floors is 24 floors, equivalent to 25 floors high. The ship is equipped with an 18,000 cubic meter MARK III LNG fuel tank and has a clean power endurance of nearly 20,000 nautical miles. Compared with traditional fuel tankers, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by about 20%, nitrogen oxides are reduced by 85%, and particulate matter and sulfur oxide emissions are reduced by 99%, fully meeting the world's strictest environmental protection standards.

CMA CGM Group said that the four world's *** 24,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel powered container ships built by Hudong Zhonghua have played a crucial role in promoting CMA CGM Group's energy transition and global shipping decarbonization. Since the official delivery of the world's first 23,000TEU LNG-powered container ship "CMA CG-powered Jacquesad in 2017", Hudong Zhonghua, as a key partner of CMA CGM, has escorted the construction and delivery of these world's pioneering ships. CMA CGM Group plans to put into operation about 200 dual-fuel container ships by 2031, all of which can sail on low-carbon energy. In the process of building a series of ships, Hudong Zhonghua continues to promote lean management and intelligent manufacturing, and widely applies advanced processes such as digital hatch cover installation, 3D digital scanning, and modular assembly to significantly improve construction efficiency and quality. All key nodes of the ship have achieved efficient propulsion, and finally achieved a large number of early delivery.

At present, the global shipping industry has entered the deep waters of green and low-carbon transformation, and LNG dual-fuel container ships have become the mainstream choice of the current industry due to their compliance, economy and supply chain maturity, with continuous growth in order scale and promising market prospects. Hudong Zhonghua and CMA CGM Group have in-depth cooperation to take the lead in applying LNG as power fuel in the field of ultra-large container ships, breaking through the technical bottleneck of MARK III membrane fuel tanks on ultra-large container ships, and leading the diversified, high-end and high-quality development of the global LNG industry.

With the delivery of the "CMA CGM Paris Grand Palais", Hudong Zhonghua ushered in the delivery milestone of the 101st container ship, achieving full sequence coverage of ship types from 1,714 TEUs to more than 24,000 TEUs. At present, Hudong Zhonghua hand-held container ship orders are sufficient, and the production tasks have been scheduled until 2028 and beyond, and the partners are the world's leading shipping companies, showing strong market competitiveness and industry leadership.
